Every day, New Foundation Church is closer to relaunch. Last week, bank accounts were opened and online giving became operational. This week, we have made significant progress toward securing a meeting space. As a result, we are hopeful that we will be able to begin in-person worship services in October!
With that in mind, we want to provide a quick preview of what the next few months will look like. In October, we will begin in-person services. At least initially, we will almost certainly be sharing space with another church, and there will still be a lot of things in flux as we organize people and equipment and work out the kinks in the new meeting space. During these next months, we will focus on three things: growing together, spreading the word, and preparing for a public relaunch.
Growing together
Growing together is going to involve growing our faith through deliberate discipleship and prayer. It is also going to involve growing in our relationships with each other as we bond with each other into a cohesive core group. It is going to involve growing in our numbers. We will need to recruit others to help us accomplish the mission of making more and better followers of Jesus in Des Moines. And it is going to involve growing in proficiency. Simply put, we will need to learn how to do everything from children’s ministry to audio-video technical stuff to setting up chairs and tables as we prepare for the next chapter in the life of New Foundation Church.
Spreading the word
If our mission is to make more and better followers of Jesus, then we need to get serious about telling people about both Jesus and our church. We will therefore double down on the +1 Initiative, renewing our efforts to pray daily for the people we know who do not yet know Jesus, engage those people weekly in some meaningful way, and invite them as often as possible to both faith in Christ and fellowship with us.
Preparing for a public relaunch
Perhaps the greatest danger facing our church today is the assumption that, once we are able to meet again in-person, we have accomplished our goal. However, this could not be farther from the truth. Our mission is to make more and better followers of Jesus in Des Moines, and as long as there are people in the Des Moines metro area who are not following Jesus to the absolute best of their ability (or at all), that mission is not yet complete. Therefore, we will prepare for a public relaunch in Spring 2026. Think of it as a grand re-opening where we get ourselves and everything ready and then invite the whole community to come and see what God is up to. This will involve training, fundraising, promotional work, and much more.
In short, we have work to do!
